SOUTH PHILLY
The acronym for S.A.G.E. stands for Studio Art Group Engaged.
What is this group of artists engaged in? The group originally
came together over a year ago for informal studio visits to critique
work in progress, exchange information and discuss current events.
The
number of members has grown slowly over the past year and is limited
only by the number of people that can fi t into an average studio
space. In the future, S.A.G.E. plans to pursue other public art
events that may include alternative venues for exhibitions, open
studios and other special activities.
SAGE Projects
Because of the dire economic situation a number of stores have
become vacant on South Street in Philadelphia. Arts groups from
around the area are taking empty storefronts and repurposing
them to showcase their work and bring new energy to the area.
The space at 333 South Street is our fi rst effort outside of
the studio visits. Although similar to a traditional gallery,
we approach things differently, both in the type of exhibitions
we present and the way we are organized.
In the Project Space on the street level we will be presenting
thematic exhibitions with a wide range of works including video,
assemblage, sculpture and installation art, while on the second
level we will be showing primarily painting and sculpture.
There
will be live music and other special events: possibly fi lm presentations,
auctions and artists from other disciplines like dance and poetry.
When you visit the Sage Projects one of the artist members will
always be there. Please fell free to ask them any questions concerning
te work or our group.
